Our Instructors
| Andrew Dapkin Guitarist Andrew Dapkin earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from Western Connecticut State University, where he perfomed in many ensembles including WCSU Jazz Sextet I, Jazz Orchestra, and Jazz Guitar Ensemble. As a member of WCSU Jazz Sextet I, Mr. Dapkin performed with jazz notables such as saxophonist, Bob Berg and drummer, John Riley; and opened for Phil Woods, John Scofield, and the Yellowjackets at WCSU Jazz Festivals. He has also completed more than 40 additional credits at WCSU in music education, has fulfilled all requirements as a student teacher, and has attained a Connecticut music education teaching certificate.
John Ingrassia | Singer/guitarist and songwriter John Ingrassia has studied privately with prominent musicians and has over 20 years of guitar playing experience. He teaches guitar, bass and beginner drums. John is currently an arts school instructor at Wesleyan University Green Street. In addition to teaching, he conducts several blues/rock clinics all around CT. He has developed a blues style of his own by studying the styles of B B King, Doyle Bramhall and Jeff Pitchell. Johnny has performed at top blues clubs such as The Blues and Cafe 9 (New Haven, CT). John was also entered into the "99" blues talent contest sponsored by the CT Blues Society, which John is a member of, and performed at Black Eyed Sallys (Hartford, CT). John has also performed and recorded with many prominent musicians and bands in the northeast area. He has won awards for "Favorite local artist" and "Best guitarist" in 2002 and 2003 with nominations for "Best Blues/rock band."
Gary Velush | Songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Gary Velush has been a working musician in the New Haven area for the past 4 years after completeing the Jazz Performance program at Western Connecticut State University. A self-taught musician until his collegiate career, Gary has 14 years' expierience on the guitar and bass as well as 10 on the drums and a lifetime of singing both formally and independently. His primary fields of study while attending WestConn were upright jazz bass and composition. He is presently an active face in the vibrant New Haven independent music scene.
Yury Alexov | Originally from Russia, Yury Alexov began studying violin at the age of 4. He studied at the Special Music School of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory and graduated from St. Petersburg State Conservatory with an MA in Violin Performance, Ensemble, Orchestra and Teaching. During the last twenty years, Yury has taught privately, in public schools and in higher education throughout Georgia, Florida and North Carolina, founding Strings Academy and Lumber River Strings (both Robeson Public Schools), and Robeson Symphony Orchestra, where he was music Director & Conductor. He created the Orchestra Program at University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he was teaching Violin, Viola, Chamber Ensemble and String Methods. As an electric violin player he performs his own fusion jazz and rock compositions as well as arrangements of popular classical music. Currently Yury Alexov plays with Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Norwalk Symphony and other music organizations in New York City.
Polina M. | Polina was educated at Wesleyan University where she received her Bachelor of Music degree in 2006. She went on to graduate studies at the Hartt Schoolf of Music at the University of Hartford where she completed a Master of Music History with Performance Practice Emphasis degree. Currently she is enrolled at Central Connecticut State University where she is pursuing music teacher certification. Polina has extensive teaching experience. She has been teaching piano for two years and has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Hartford where she taught “Introduction to Music” to undergraduates for several semesters. |
